Five years ago you'd have struggled to find a padel court in India. In 2026 there are courts on Mumbai rooftops, inside Bangalore tech parks and behind South Delhi schools, and weekend slots in the big cities book out days ahead. This guide is everything we know from running padel events across the country: how big the sport has got, what it costs to play, where to play in each city, and which tournaments are worth entering.

How big is padel in India in 2026?

Padel arrived in India in 2017, when the first court opened in Bangalore. For five years it barely grew; there were around ten courts in the country until 2022. Then it took off.

2022 About 10 The Playbook (May 2024)

2024 80 to 100 The Playbook (May 2024)

The Economic Times puts the number of players at around 100,000, and the India Padel Report 2026 projects the ecosystem to grow tenfold by 2036. A big reason is that padel is easy to start. The underarm serve, the small court and the walls mean that a complete beginner can rally within one session, which is exactly why FindYourFit runs it alongside pickleball.

Nationally, the sport is organised by the Indian Padel Federation, set up in 2016, which had held nine annual national ranking events by 2025 and is endorsed by the Indian Olympic Association. FindYourFit's tournaments follow the International Padel Federation (FIP) rulebook, which was updated on 1 January 2026. Our padel rules for beginners covers the changes.

Why padel is growing so fast in India

A few things have come together at once.

  • It's quick to learn. The serve is underarm and the court is small, so new players get rallies going in their first hour. That matters in a country where, according to The Playbook, more than half of padel players had never played another sport.
  • It's always doubles. Four people per court makes it social by default, and it splits the court cost four ways.
  • It fits where cities have space. A padel court takes about the footprint of two pickleball courts, and operators have built them on mall rooftops, school grounds, club lawns and hotel premises.
  • Serious money is going in. 7Padel, the court network backed by MS Dhoni and run with PadelPark India, now operates courts in Mumbai, Bangalore, Gurugram and Chennai, and PadelPark is working on an eight-city franchise league.
  • There are things to play for. Between social tournaments, team leagues and national ranking events, an amateur can play competitive padel most months of the year in the big cities.

FindYourFit added padel to its events in December 2024, at Pickle & Padel Palooza 2.0 in Delhi, and now runs padel in four of its five cities.

How much does padel cost in India?

Three things decide what you'll pay: the city, the time of day and the club.

City What booking apps show (Oct 2026) Premium and peak hours
Mumbai Listings from about ₹400 ₹1,250 – ₹3,000/hour at 7Padel; ₹3,500 – ₹4,000/hour at Padel 360, Worli
Delhi Listings from about ₹300 to ₹1,450 Higher in the evenings and at weekends
Gurugram Listings from about ₹200 to ₹1,500 Higher in the evenings and at weekends
Bangalore Listings from about ₹250 to ₹1,500 Higher in the evenings and at weekends
Jaipur Contact the venue

Booking-app prices are "from" prices and can be per player or per slot, so check the final court price before you pay. The useful number is the cost per person: a doubles court holds four players, so a ₹2,000 hour works out at ₹500 each.

Other costs:

  • Racket: around ₹3,000 for an entry-level racket in 2024; premium Babolat or Head models go up to ₹30,000. Most clubs rent rackets, so don't buy one until you've played a few times.
  • Balls: padel balls look like tennis balls but have lower pressure. Clubs usually supply them.
  • Shoes: court shoes with a herringbone or omni sole. Running shoes slip on the turf.
  • Building a court: about ₹15 to 25 lakh per court, which is why hourly prices are still higher than for pickleball.

Padel tournaments in India

There are three kinds of tournament you can enter as an amateur.

1. Social tournaments. FindYourFit's Padel Palooza is a one-day doubles tournament with groups, knockouts and a final, plus music, food and prizes. It has run in Delhi since December 2024, in Bangalore since August 2025 and in Mumbai since October 2026.

2. Team leagues. These are the most beginner-friendly format. Teams of three play ties made up of two doubles matches, and every player has to rotate in.

League Date Venue Format
The Bangalore Cup 24 May 2026 Depot 18, Bangalore 16 teams of 3, minimum one beginner per team, no pro or national players
The Jaipur Cup – Padel Edition 18 July 2026 Play Padel, Clarks Amer, Jaipur 10 teams of 3, minimum one beginner per team
The Delhi Cup – Padel League 15 August 2026 REPPP, Mehrauli 10 teams of 3, winners progress to the National Padel Cup

City champions from FindYourFit's leagues meet in Delhi for a national final.

3. Ranking events. For a more serious path, the Indian Padel Federation runs national ranking events (nine by 2025), and private circuits such as the Indian Padel Tour award city ranking points.

How to start playing padel in India

  1. Book a court for four. Use Hudle, District or Playo and split the cost. An off-peak weekday slot is cheapest.
  2. Rent a racket. Ask the club. Don't buy one yet.
  3. Learn the five basic rules. Serve underarm, let the serve bounce, the walls are in play after the ball bounces, golden point at deuce, and change ends on odd games. Our rules guide covers them in five minutes.
  4. Join an Americano. Many clubs run social mixers where partners rotate every game. It's the fastest way to find people at your level.
  5. Enter a team league. FindYourFit's team formats keep a place for beginners. Watch the FindYourFit Sports page and your city's events page: Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur.

What to expect at your first padel tournament

If you've only played with friends, a tournament day feels different in three ways.

  1. You'll play more than you expect. Group stages are round robin, so even a pair that loses every match plays three or four times.
  2. Matches are short. Most social tournaments shorten sets to a race to five or six games, with a tiebreak instead of a full set. Pace yourself; the knockouts come late in the day.
  3. The scoring is strict. In casual games people replay disputed points. In a tournament, golden point at deuce and the serve rules are applied, and someone keeps the score.

Bring two shirts, a water bottle and a snack, arrive 30 minutes before your first match to warm up, and check the draw board for your court.

A short padel glossary

Term What it means
Americano A social format where partners rotate every round and individual points are counted
Mexicano Like an Americano, but pairings for each round are based on the current standings
Golden point One deciding point at 40–40 instead of advantage
Star Point The FIP's 2026 deuce rule: advantage twice, then one deciding point
Bandeja A controlled overhead shot with slice, used to keep the net position
Víbora A more aggressive sliced overhead, with sidespin
Chiquita A soft, low return aimed at the opponents' feet when they're at the net
Bajada Attacking a ball as it comes down off the back wall
Tie (in team leagues) The full match-up between two teams, usually two doubles matches

Padel vs pickleball

People often ask which one to pick. You don't have to choose; FindYourFit runs both on the same evening at many events.

Padel Pickleball
Court 10 m × 20 m, enclosed by glass and mesh 20 × 44 ft, open
Walls In play after the bounce None
Equipment Solid perforated racket, low-pressure ball Flat paddle, plastic ball with holes
Serve Underarm, after a bounce, below the waist Underarm, diagonal
Scoring Tennis scoring: 15, 30, 40, game Points to 11, win by 2 (FYF events vary)
Usually played Doubles only Singles or doubles
Cost to build a court About ₹15 – 25 lakh Much lower

If you like long rallies and a bit of strategy, padel. If you want something cheaper and quicker to pick up, pickleball. Either way, the first session is the hardest part.
